EXPLODING MYTHS FROM THE LEFT

Comments

Excellent post. One interesting point: ‘The United States does not seek and will not seek permanent bases in Iraq, and any framework would affirm this principle.’ I know this is true, but you know, an Iraqi base might not be a bad thing strategically. It’s a pity this is used against the US—when the MSM never mention how bases in Germany, Okinawa and South Korea help in their parts of the world.

Jack-

Your point is well taken. I suspect that a permanent base courld happen if the Iraqis insisted on it but I do not believe that will happen.

You are correct, plus Iraq is now a sovereign country with an elected government and the US could only set up such a base by invitation—another fact the left seems to forget.

My pleasure. Thank you for your good-sense blogging.
War budget compared to education budget? 3? times as much money spent on education and look at the results of that spending. Get Newt in there, quick. He has an idea to create incentives to kids that both reward kids and their parents monetarily and yet, saves the US taxpayer dollars.
You're right: Newt has some great ideas relative to education and other matters. Further we are borrowing the money to fund our expenses and we would not be doing so without the need to pay for troops in the field. In other words we would not borrow it to pay for education.

Just coming by to say congrats on making the "News and Politics" page, and that I appreciate a well-written counterweight, if you will, to balance things out. I'm actually an Independent, and fairly moderate minded-- so I appreciate reading on the flip side of the coin, so to speak.

I would, however, point out that the current state of the media isn't really a new thing. It's got a very long history of left-leaning and pitching news as entertainment. For example, the Scopes Monkey Trial was covered on the radio like it was a sports game. I've also read that bias in the media used to be understood, and expected. Apparently, these days, there isn't so much clarification.

It also doesn't help that politics are extremely polarized these days.

Thanks for the visit and comment.

Your media points are right on. The fact is that the historic purpose of the print "media" was to promote a partisian point of view. However in post WWII society the news media promoted themselves as "unbiased" sources of the news. They never have been, are not now and never will be such. Thus, as you intimate, they try to hide behind a false curtain.
